Today most pergolas are made from softwood.

The problem with softwood pergolas is that by the time you have your plants well established, the pergola itself needs to be painted with preservative to stop it rotting.

Unfortunately this usually results in your plants being covered with preservative as well.

In most cases the preservative is made from chemicals that can kill plants, so ironically you end up poisoning the very plants you wanted to grow.

Here at Tischler our pergolas are made from green oak, which means that you don’t have that problem of regular maintenance.

As oak is a hardwood it is less susceptible to rotting and in most cases you can leave them to age naturally.

Oak ages into a lovely silver grey colour which also has the added benefit of allowing your plants to stand out rather than the pergola itself.

We can supply kits for the smaller size pergolas, as well as various larger sizes constructed on site by our installation team.
